So I'm actually down at the church in Naha which is on the southern
part of the sland because today is the other Zone's Zone P-day and the Zone
leaders called us up and wanted us to help out with it. We arrived last night,
slept over at the Naha Sister's apartment, and then when P-day ends we're going
to do a companion exchange with the Naha Sisters tonight and tomorrow. I love
Naha so it should be good times!
This past week was pretty busy because we've got some big activities coming
up. The first one is an open house/ lu'au to show off our beautiful new building
and have tons of fun! My companion and I got put in charge of the entertainment
portion of the event and we've been on the phone for hours on end trying to see
what kind of people have talents that they are willing to share and prepare in a
matter of about two weeks. Luckily, we've actually got quite a few Hawaiians on
the island, my companion included, so it's been coming together quite nicely and
we're just trying to keep everything organized and pull this thing off in two
weeks!
One random slightly embarassing story goes as follows. The Elders in our
area got it set up for us to teach English Lessons to some young girls that they
passed over to us. We went the first time two weeks ago by car with a member and
the Elders so that they could introduce us and show us where it was. This past
week, we planned on going by bike and just asked the Elders for directions to
the park that we were going to meet them at. This was our directions 'Go down
this road until you see the Tiki man and then turn left. Its the park on your
right. It will be further than you think.' Long story short, we ended up biking
for THREE HOURS looking for this place. Back and forth many times, about halfway
through, it started POURING rain, and I of course forgot my rain gear, so I was
completely drenched from head to toe. We finally stopped, and said a prayer.
After tree hours of biking. Yea, I don't know why on earth we didn't think about
that before. But literally three minutes after we finish our prayer and start
biking, we found the Tiki man, and then the park. Moral of the story, Don't
forget to pray. And Don't forget your rain gear when you live on Okinawa
Japan.
Also, the other sisters that we live with had a baptism this past Saturday
for an American girl named Karla, so that was a really cool experience. It was
actually the first American baptism that I had attended in this area, (besides
all the 8 year old ones because all these military Mormons have tons of young
children) and it was really neat to watch a baptismal service in my native
language.
Also, we ran into this cute young woman on the street the other day named
Okamune San and she's actually from mainland, but down in Okinawa for work and
we've been teaching her a little bit. She came to church for her first time
yesterday, made a lot of friends, and stayed for the entire three hours! It was
super cute too because during sacrament meeting, we looked over at her at one
point, and she had her eyes closed so we thought she fell asleep. The member
that was sitting next to her poked her to wake her up, and she opened one eye
and whispered that she was praying, and then closed her eyes again. It was so
cute! She has a lot of potential so please pray for her!
Well, I love you and all appreciate the support! I hope you all enjoy
conference weekend! We won't get to watch it until next weekend on the 11th and
12th so don't spoil any of the surprises for me!
